North East London
Gymnastics Club at the London Festival of Gymnastics Oct.
11-12th 2008 at the Brentwood Centre.
It was a chilly start to Saturday, as we arrived at the Museum
of Childhood to meet the minibus at 7:45am. Despite the early
hour, the gymnasts were remarkably cheerful, you could tell
it wasn't a school morning!
As the journey progressed, the
sun came up through the morning mist and it turned into a
very warm day. Sunday was even hotter. It was lovely to see
the other teams performing from all over Britain - they all
had a mix of ages and abilities and the standard of performance
was very high from all the participants.
There were at least 50 teams,
some groups had more than 40 gymnasts on the floor at once.
It was a testament to their hardwork and self-dicipline that
they managed to keep together and in time with the music.
North East London Gymnastics Club was represented by a team
of 17 gymnasts aged 6 – 15, for many this was their first
ever festival. Despite the nerves our "Ghosties and Ghoulies" did
a marvellous job of showing off their skills: toes were pointed,
ribbons were waved, bodies were hoisted aloft. It was a great
spectacle with the gymnasts tumbling and dancing throughout
the 8 minute performance. The atmosphere was buzzing, the audience
was packed and hugely supportive and our gymnasts responded
to the electricity in the Performance Space and their enjoyment
showed on their faces.
It is almost overwhelming to
watch, the vast scale of the room and the floor with all
those bodies tumbling and passing so closely - a rare opportunity
for the participants to develop their skills and to have
those skills publicly acknowledged.
As a parent of one of the display
gymnasts and on behalf of the other gymnasts who took part,
I would like to say a public "Thank You" to Lara and Julia
for the time and effort they have put in, extra to class
times to give the gymnasts this memorable experience. Thanks
also go to all the coaches who teach the gymnasts in their
regular skills sessions at North East London Gymnastics Club.

WELL DONE TO NORTH EAST
LONDON GYMNASTICS CLUB
LONDON REGIONAL BLUE & WHITE COMPETITION 20TH OCTOBER
2008
The very early start of 8:30 AM at Cheam High School was all
worth while as the gymnasts from North East London Gymnastics
Club performed superbly.
For many of the gymnasts in the White Level Competition this
was their first ever competition.
Representing North East London Gymnastics Club were 24 gymnasts
aged from 6-11 years.
Many of our gymnasts were competing
against clubs with dedicated facilities and gymnasts training
6-8 hours a week.
Even though our Hackney gymnasts
have a fraction of this training time and are training out
of a school gym at Stoke Newington School, they performed
brilliantly.
The boys started off the event well, with Pele Julien claiming
a Gold medal and Silver going to Indigo Jones in their first
regional competition - WELL DONE BOYS.
The girls continued this success with 2 Bronze medals for Topas
Gordan in the White Level, and Daisy Hart in the Blue Level.
In addition to this, 15 gymnasts achieved a score high enough
to pass the grade and move up to the next regional competition
